Welcome to Louisiana!
In Louisiana, history and lore live side-by-side in the everyday lives of its people. Baton Rouge is its capital city, serving as the political center of the state, and home to the flagship institution of the Louisiana State University system.
Baton Rouge’s prime location in the south central part of the state is just an hour away from picturesque swamps, historic plantations, and exuberant New Orleans, where “Laissez les bon temps rouler” (“Let the good times roll!”) is a way of life.
In addition to scientific workshops and sessions covering the latest research in craniofacial identification, IACI delegates also will experience Louisiana’s unique culinary and cultural traditions through several planned conference activities.
Delegates will touch history with a tour and dinner at Houmas House Plantation, the largest producer of sugar in the country during plantation times.
Through “New Orleans Lagniappe,” delegates can be inspired by nature via a swamp tour through an ancient cypress studded bayou, choose to board “The Creole Queen” Paddlewheel River Boat for a cruise to Historic Chalmette Battlefield, where costumed re-enactors will bring to life the 1815 Battle of New Orleans, or meander through the French Quarter, admiring the architecture, exploring the French Market, and indulging in café au lait and beignets at the world famous Café Dumonde.
