The IACI supports a number of student prizes for best presentations at each conference through registration fees.
Thanks to philanthropic support, a number of other Scholarships and Awards are available biennially in association with each IACI conference.

For Students:
IACI Best Student Presentation(s)
At least one award is presented at each IACI Meeting to the student delivering the best student presentation (poster or podium). To be eligible students must be registered for the conference, must be the presenting author for the paper, and must also be the first author of the paper. Students fulfilling these criteria are automatically entered into consideration for the award(s). Depending on the preferences of the conference organizing committee, one award for best overall student presentation may be made or multiple separate awards offered for podium and poster categories. Candidates are assessed by a judging panel compiled and approved by the Board of Governors.
Recipients of the IACI Best Student Presentation receive a certificate and book prize.
CRANIOFACIALidentification.com Student Travel Award
The CRANIOFACIALidentification.com Travel Award was inaugurated in 2017 and is made to support a student (or a recently graduated student who is transitioning to practice) to register and present at the Biennial Meeting of the International Association for Craniofacial Identification (IACI). The aim of the award is to support a craniofacial identification student to register for the forthcoming IACI meeting to showcase some of their recent research in a presentation, network with colleagues and help build their curriculum vitae.
To be eligible the student must:
The awardee will be decided based on the quality of the submitted abstract. It should be noted that the award (AUD$1,000) may not cover the entirety of the registration fees, depending on the conference. Students accepting an award offer are expected to honour the registration by conference attendance. In rare circumstances where no students holding accepted abstracts apply, the award maybe extended to a non-presenting student, or may not be offered. The R. Taylor Award for Best Case-Report Abstract
The Award for the Best Case Report Abstract was inaugurated by R. Taylor in 2017 to provide recognition to the practitioner submitting the best case report from amongst those papers presented at that year’s IACI conference. The aim of the award is to support practitioners’ careers, especially early career practitioners, via recognition of high quality work submitted to the IACI conference. The first award was made in 2019.
The Best Case Report Abstract is currently judged by Ronn Taylor on the following three criteria:
If insufficient number or quality of case report abstracts are received, the award may not be offered. Announcement of the award is made during formalities at the biennial conference dinner. Recipients of the award receive a certificate and equivalent AUD$200 cash prize.
The CN. Stephan Award for Best Scientific Abstract
The Award for the Best Scientific Abstract was inaugurated by C.N. Stephan in 2017 to provide recognition to the scientist submitting the best scientific abstract from amongst those papers presented at that year’s IACI conference. The aim of the award is to support practitioners’ careers in the field via recognition of high quality work submitted to the IACI conference and to draw submissions of such work to IACI conferences. The first award was made in 2019.
The Best Scientific Abstract is currently judged by Carl Stephan on the following three criteria:
If insufficient number or quality of scientific abstracts are received, the award may not be offered. Announcement of the award is made during formalities at the biennial conference dinner. Recipients of the award receive a certificate and equivalent AUD$200 cash prize.

- Comprehensive case description that includes results/outcomes (results need not be positive, submission of lessons from negative findings are also encouraged);
- Clarity of writing.
If insufficient number or quality of case report abstracts are received, the award may not be offered. Announcement of the award is made during formalities at the biennial conference dinner. Recipients of the award receive a certificate and equivalent AUD$200 cash prize.

IACI Lifetime Achievement Award
The IACI Lifetime Achievement Award honors those individuals associated with the IACI that have contributed a lifetime to promote, employ and research craniofacial identification through academic and/or applied practical work. This award was inaugurated by the Board of Governors at the 2006 Istanbul conference, where Prof. Dr. Richard Helmer became its first recipient.
Nominees for this esteemed award are considered on an ongoing and biennial basis by the Board of Governors. An engraved plaque, designed and commissioned by Michael Taister, is presented to each awardee.
